Providence Health & Services Senior Network Engineer PSJH in Beaverton, Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Network Engineer to join our Wide Area Network Services team at our location in Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Beaverton, OR; Anchorage, AK; Lubbock, TX; Missoula, MT; or Irvine, CA.

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer PSJH to design and support networks in a large health care environment.

As part of a team of senior network engineers and architects is responsible for all network designs and standards implemented across the PSJH system. Also responsible for planning, designing, and implementing new WAN technology.

Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Providence mission, values, and philosophy. Serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization. Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with staff on Communication Infrastructure teams and all Providence staff, including:

• Close collaboration with other Network Services teams staff at all levels of the organization.

• Providence outside community/customer/patients.

• Vendors/business partners.

This position has the responsibility to interface and ensure service delivery for Regional and Enterprise Providence Health and Services entities. Develops relationships with regional customers so that IS/IT infrastructure services are provided according to regional business need with priority and special emphasis placed on production systems, production incidents and emergencies, regional projects and Enterprise-wide projects in this descending order of importance.

This position has responsibility for the delivery, evaluation, implementation, and continuous improvement of these services systemwide. Provides critical technology infrastructure solutions and support to clinical and business functions such as: patient care, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, patient accounting, general accounting, materials management, payroll, and electronic communications within Providence Health System. Analyzes data traffic patterns within network infrastructure, detecting operational problems and recommending improvements to ensure optimal performance.

Engage in moderately complex troubleshooting including running maintenance and recovery tasks; interpreting alarms and errors in the logs; and performing maintenance to correct problems. Develops detailed documentation for the purposes of expediting problem identification and resolution. Creates new network designs, assessing the network requirements for a solution, and suggesting recommendations aligned with the goals of the organization.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in development and maintenance of network standards, procedures, and performance requirements for the enterprise infrastructure network environment.

  • Design the required business and technical configuration management processes to ensure network standards compliance across the enterprise.

  • Assist in evaluating system designs, provides and implements recommendations to improve performance, productivity, functionality and decrease rework and duplication.

  • Participate in key process improvements for all network environments throughout the organization.

  • Coordinate network device configuration and management.

  • Ensure that network devices comply with established policies, standards, licensing agreements, and configuration guidelines.

  • Create and maintain accurate technical and procedural documentation for support of voice and data systems.

  • Partner with technical support staff to meet or exceed network service level goals.

  • Maximize network service performance, and quickly resolve network outages escalated the network engineering.

  • Participate in on call duties as assigned.

  • Partner with business leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure network services are meeting the needs of the PSJH ministries.

  • Assist in the design and review of new data, voice and/or telephony deployments.

  • Define and implement strategies for integrating data, voice and telephony technologies.

  • Coordinate with data network engineering, data center engineering, voice communication, and business application functions to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of the network to meet corporate objectives.

  • Ensure network designs and processes are in place to secure and protect the enterprise network.

  • Establish network designs that comply with regulatory requirements.

  • Provide input to policies, procedures and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure enterprise network security.

  • Implement network infrastructure equipment with the highest degree of security to protect the business and clinical information of the organization.

  • Collaborate effectively and consistently with peer network Engineers and Architects.

  • Assist in coordination of integrated systems integrity between users of Information Services and third party software vendors or programmers.

  • Participate in the development and adherence to project schedules.

  • Constantly update networking job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional social networks, and participation in professional organizations.

  • Display a professional attitude and demeanor when working with organizations external to the team, providing a positive attitude and customer centric approach. When required to travel for Providence, professionalism is displayed at all times.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent education/experience

  • 5 years Enterprise LAN/WAN network design and support

  • 5 years Enterprise network design and support

  • 5 years Network application performance tuning

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 5 years Information Technology support in a large health care environment

  • 3 years real-time application (VoIP, Video, etc…) wireless network design and support

  • ITIL certification.

  • Current network certifications (CCNP or higher desired)

  • Experience with large multi-region enterprise technology
