Providence Health & Services SQL Server Database Administrator in Beaverton, Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Principal Database Administrator to our location in Beaverton, OR.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Serves as a point of escalation for database support issues, implementation problems, and design decisions.

  • Defines and oversees implementation of standards for database administration and development.

  • Performs, monitors, and documents quality assurance for database projects and problem resolution activities.

  • Coordinates migration of systems into production. Determining impact of development/production requirements on existing systems support resources. Manages the follow up process of system problems, working with other IS teams to define production problem escalation procedures.

  • Plans for the integration of new technologies into the existing environment and leads efforts to implement them.

  • Develops cost projections, charters, and timelines for database projects.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years’ experience in a related technical field OR Associate degree plus 10 years’ experience in a related technical field OR 12 year’s industry related technical experience required.

  • Executing all aspects of database administration, in the areas of installation, configuration, upgrades, and tuning.

  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options.

  • Experience in performance tuning and optimization, with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

  • Familiarity with improving database availability techniques like clustering and replication.

  • Knowledge of database modeling concepts and ability to partner with application developers in defining standards and best practices.

  • Working knowledge of the applications commonly interfacing with database, such as ETL Tools (Informatica), Reporting/Analytic Tools, and other applications.

  • Knowledge of networks, and storage systems as it applies to managing databases, like NetApp, Pure Storage, or other product.

  • Good communication and documentation skills.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Involvement with MS SQL Server community, forums, and newsgroups.

  • Deep knowledge of advances in data management area.
